In short

Patio and alfresco resurfacing is judged close up, so the finer finishes earn their keep here: diamond tile patterns, stamped slate, timber look plank and border tiles. Under a roof the finish can be smoother; where it runs into weather we raise the specification and keep the sealer UV stable. Old tiles come off first, never coated over.

Detail

Patios across South East Queensland

Alfresco floors, under-roof and out in the weather. The one surface people actually look at while sitting still.

Patios get judged up close. Nobody inspects a driveway from a metre away, but they will sit on a patio for three hours looking at the floor — so this is where the finer finishes earn their keep: diamond tile patterns, stamped slate, timber look plank, or a border tile framing the field.

Under a roof, slip rating can relax and the finish can be smoother and more refined. Where the patio runs out into weather, we step the specification up and keep the sealer UV stable, because the joint between covered and uncovered is where cheap work shows first.

Existing tiled patios are a common starting point: the tiles come off, the adhesive gets ground back, and a continuous overlay goes down with no grout lines to scrub.

Questions

The questions we get asked

Can you resurface over old patio tiles?

The tiles and adhesive come off first, then the slab is ground and the overlay goes on. Coating over tiles telegraphs every grout line within a year.

Which finish is coolest underfoot?

Lighter colours and a smoother texture. A pale plain or tile finish stays noticeably cooler than a dark stamped one.

Do you quote on site?

Always. The slab gets a test grind and a moisture check before anyone quotes a finish for it.

We will tell you whether it can be resurfaced, what finish suits it, and what it costs — before anyone turns up with a grinder.
