Concrete removal

In short

When a slab is past saving we saw-cut the removal line to protect adjoining work, break it out by machine or by hand in tight access, and cart the material to a recycler where the load allows. The site is left graded and compacted ready to re-pour, which we can do in the same contract.

Detail

Concrete removal in South East Queensland

When a slab is past saving: cut, broken out, carted away and recycled — with the site left ready to pour.

We would rather resurface than remove, but some slabs are done: heaved by tree roots, poured on fill that has settled, cracked through in more than one direction, or simply in the wrong place for what the property is becoming.

Removal is cut first, break second. Saw-cut lines keep the demolition inside the area being replaced so the adjoining slab, kerb or pool coping survives. Material goes out to a recycler rather than landfill wherever the load allows.

The site is left graded and compacted, ready for the new pour — which we can do in the same contract, so there is no gap between one trade leaving and the next arriving.

Concrete removal — recent job in South East Queensland
Recent work

Photographed on our own jobs.

Every photo on this site is a slab we prepared and finished ourselves. No stock library, no supplier brochures.

Method

Four days, in the same order, every job.

Preparation is most of the work and all of the warranty. The decorative part is the last day.

01 — Grind and test

Diamond grind back to sound concrete, then moisture and bond test. If the slab fails, you get told before you pay for an overlay that will lift.

02 — Repair and prime

Cracks cut, filled and bridged. Falls corrected so water leaves the slab instead of sitting on it. Primer coat the same day.

03 — Lay the finish

Overlay, stencil, aggregate or flake, laid to the build-up quoted. One crew, no subcontracted finishers.

04 — Seal and cure

Two coats of UV-stable sealer. Foot traffic at 24 hours, vehicles at 72 on most finishes.

Questions

The questions we get asked

Can you remove concrete in tight access?

Yes — narrow-access machines and hand demolition for courtyards, side paths and anywhere a truck cannot reach.

Is removal always more expensive than resurfacing?

Usually, once disposal and the new pour are counted. That is exactly why we test the existing slab before recommending it.

Which suburbs do you cover?

Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, the western corridor and both coasts. Anything further out we quote case by case.

Are you licensed?

QBCC licence 1109935, and fully insured. The licence number is on every quote and can be checked on the QBCC register.
