Slip resistance is specified higher on stairs than anywhere else, treads are laid with a slight forward fall, and contrasting nosings go in where required.

Steps fail at the nosing first. The front edge of each tread takes every impact and every foot, and once it spalls the step becomes both ugly and genuinely dangerous. We rebuild nosings, re-profile the tread, and then resurface the flight as a continuous run.
Slip resistance gets specified higher on stairs than anywhere else on the property, and treads are laid with a consistent texture rather than a decorative pattern that could disguise the edge. Where the code or the situation calls for it, a contrasting nosing strip goes in.
Falls on treads matter too: a tread that holds water is a tread that grows algae. Each one is laid with a slight fall to shed water forward.

Can broken step edges be repaired rather than replaced?
Almost always. The nosing is cut back to sound concrete, rebuilt with repair mortar and re-profiled before the finish goes on.
Do you add handrail fixings?
We core and grout fixings where a rail is being installed, and seal around existing fixings so water cannot track in.
Do you quote on site?
Always. The slab gets a test grind and a moisture check before anyone quotes a finish for it.
