Nerang sits at the hinterland edge, so blocks are larger, driveways longer and steeper, and shed slabs common. Salt exposure is low this far inland, which widens the sealer options. Long steep driveways make slip rating and drainage the leading decisions.
What we do here
Nerang is where the Gold Coast starts turning into hinterland. Blocks get bigger, driveways get longer and steeper, and there is usually a shed and a second hardstand somewhere on the property.
Being this far from the water also changes the product range. Salt exposure is low, so film sealers and coloured finishes that would be a poor choice on a canal front are perfectly viable here.
- Long acreage driveways and turning circles
- Steep approaches with slip rating to match
- Shed slabs and machinery hardstand
- Pool surrounds and pool paths
- Drainage and fall correction
- Exposed aggregate over large areas
What the slabs are like in Nerang
Gradient and length together are the local problem. A long steep driveway carries a lot of water in a Queensland storm, and if the fall and drainage are wrong the surface will not fix it — it will just show the ponding faster than the old one did. We look at where water goes before we look at finishes.
Slip rating is specified for the wet condition on any real grade. That effectively rules out high-gloss films on a steep approach and favours exposed aggregate or a textured pattern with a matte seal.
Large areas move more than small ones, so joint layout carries more weight here than in a suburban driveway. We set out control joints deliberately across a long run rather than letting the concrete choose its own crack lines, and we honour existing joints in the substrate.

How we schedule Nerang work
Large areas are planned as multi-day jobs with the grind, the lay and the cure sequenced so you keep vehicle access. On a long driveway that normally means working in sections from the shed or garage outward.
Rates improve with area, so if the driveway and a shed slab are both on the list it is materially cheaper to do them in one visit than in two.

What goes down most often here
Exposed aggregate
Washed back to reveal the stone. The South East Queensland driveway default, and the most forgiving surface underfoot.
See finishColoured concrete
Full-strength oxide colour, with or without a cut pattern. Reads terracotta against brick and charcoal against render.
See finishPlain concrete
One colour, no cuts, no pattern. The finish that disappears and lets the house do the talking.
See finishThe questions we get asked in Nerang
Our driveway is long and steep. Which finish?
Exposed aggregate or a textured pattern with a matte seal, rated for the wet condition. Gloss films on a steep approach are a safety problem, not a style choice.
Will a new surface fix the water pooling at the bottom?
No. Ponding is a fall and drainage problem, and a new surface will show it faster than the old one. We assess drainage before quoting a finish.
Can we keep using the driveway during the work?
Yes. On a long drive we work in sections from the garage outward so there is always a way in.
Is it cheaper to do the shed slab at the same time?
Considerably. Setup is a fixed cost, so the rate per square metre improves when the areas are combined.
