Concrete resurfacing in Bulimba

In short

Bulimba is renovation territory: character houses lifted and built in underneath, with new alfresco slabs, pool surrounds and level entertaining areas. Most of our work here sits alongside recent building work, so it has to meet a finish standard set by the rest of the renovation. Flat blocks and good access make it faster than the ridge suburbs.

Bulimba

What we do here

Bulimba work follows the renovation cycle. Houses get lifted, built in underneath, and the yard is rebuilt around a pool and an alfresco area. The concrete is new or nearly new, and the brief is almost always about matching a finish standard rather than rescuing a failed surface.

That means the conversation starts with the rest of the house. If the kitchen is honed stone and the joinery is oak, a speckled spray-on finish will look wrong no matter how well it is laid. We specify against what is already there.

  • Alfresco and entertaining slabs
  • Pool surrounds at R11–R12
  • Level entries and thresholds to new builds
  • New driveways and crossovers
  • Garage floors in flake or epoxy
  • Honed and grind-and-seal finishes

What the slabs are like in Bulimba

Bulimba slabs are young, and young slabs still hold water. A slab poured six weeks ago is structurally fine and chemically wet, and sealing it too early traps moisture that eventually pushes the coating off. We moisture test before anything goes down, and we will tell you to wait if the reading says wait — usually the least popular sentence in the quote and the one that saves the job.

The blocks here are flat and low, which helps the pour and hurts the drainage. Bulimba sits close to the river and parts of the suburb are low enough that surface water has nowhere fast to go. Where a new slab is going in, fall and drainage get set before the finish is chosen.

Because the work usually adjoins recent building, tolerances are tighter than average. Levels have to meet a finished floor, not just look flat, and the junction between the new slab and the existing structure needs a joint that will survive the house moving without cracking the surface.

Getting to you

How we schedule Bulimba work

Access is straightforward — flat blocks, wide streets, room for a truck. That makes Bulimba one of the quicker metro areas to program, and we can usually offer a date inside a fortnight.

The complication is trade sequencing. On a live renovation we are one of several trades on a shared program, and an overlay wants a clear site and dry weather. We book around the builder rather than fighting for the slab, which usually means committing to a window rather than a single day.

Questions

The questions we get asked in Bulimba

Our slab was poured last month. Can you resurface it now?

Probably not yet. New concrete holds moisture for weeks, and sealing over it traps water under the coating. We moisture test and tell you when it is ready — usually a matter of waiting, not of extra cost.

We want the concrete to match the interior stone. Is that possible?

Close, not identical. Honed and grind-and-seal finishes read much more like stone than a spray-on system. We sample on your slab so you judge it in your own light before committing.

Can you work around our builder?

Yes, and that is the normal case here. We book a window rather than a day and need the area clear and dry when we start.

What slip rating do you use around a pool?

R11 as a minimum and R12 where there is a fall or steps. It is on the quote, not left to assumption.
