What the slabs are like in Aspley
Removing the old coating is the bulk of the labour. A new layer over a failed one is only as attached as the failure underneath, so everything comes back to sound concrete first. That is the difference between a five-year job and a fifteen-year one.
Wide slabs move more than narrow ones, so control joints do real work. We set them out deliberately and carry existing joints through the new surface rather than covering them — a covered joint telegraphs through within a season.
Where a hardstand carries a caravan, boat trailer or work vehicle, that changes the specification before it changes the appearance. Point loads from jockey wheels and stands are harder on a thin overlay than a car ever is.

Can a new coat go over the old spray-on finish?
No. It has failed in patches and anything laid over it fails with it. Removal is most of the labour.
We park a caravan on it. Does that change the finish?
Yes. Point loads from jockey wheels and stands are harder on an overlay than a car. We specify for that before appearance.
Why do you need control joints?
Because a wide slab will move. Joints decide where, rather than letting the concrete choose.
Is a larger driveway cheaper per square metre?
Yes — setup is a fixed cost, so the rate improves with area.
