What the slabs are like in Chermside
Older Chermside slabs were poured thinner than current practice and often without adequate reinforcement. Many are still sound; some have too little cover left to grind. We test-grind at the quote so the answer comes from the slab rather than from optimism.
Commercial and unit slabs carry years of oil and rubber. Contamination has to be degreased and mechanically ground out, or the overlay bonds to the oil. This is the single most commonly skipped step and the most common cause of a lifted surface.
