What the slabs are like in Jindalee
Shade and damp drive the specification. A slab that never dries out pushes moisture upward, and a film sealer over it eventually blisters. Penetrating sealers let the concrete breathe while still resisting staining, and they are the right product here even though they give less gloss.
Organic staining is different from dirt. Tannins from leaf litter soak into the surface rather than sitting on it, which is why washing never shifts them. Grinding removes the stained layer; a sealed surface then resists the next round.
Mature trees also mean roots. Root lifting near driveway edges shows as a localised hump with a crack running across the slab, and covering it changes nothing. Those sections get cut out and re-formed. Fifty-year-old brick edges have also settled, so slab-to-brick junctions get proper joints rather than being bridged.

Our driveway goes green every year. Is resurfacing the fix?
It can be. Grinding removes the stained layer and a penetrating sealer resists the next round. Pressure washing only treats the symptom.
Why not a gloss sealer?
On a permanently shaded slab, moisture rising through the concrete has nowhere to go and blisters a film sealer. Penetrating products last far longer here.
A tree root has lifted the driveway. Can it be covered?
No — it comes back through the new surface within a year. That section gets cut out and re-formed.
There is a gap where the slab meets the brick edging. Serious?
Usually two things moving independently after fifty years, not a structural failure. It gets re-formed as a proper joint.
